Ariana Barouk is a model actress and singer who represented Cuba in the seventh edition of the environmentally-oriented Miss Earth 2007 international beauty pageant. Ariana Barouk was the first Miss Cuba for several decades to take part in a major beauty contest. Ariana Barouk represents Cuba as singer, actress and fashion/event correspondent. Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long Beach, California on 24 August 1972. DuVernay was encouraged by her aunt Denise when she was just a young girl. Her aunt was a nurse who stayed overnight in order to give her the opportunity to study art theatre or literature. DuVernay became enamored with the 1961 film West Side Story after her aunt introduced the film to DuVernay. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that art can be used to promote activism. DuVernay was taught to be socially conscious from her mother.
